ISO 15118

Vehicle-to-charger communication and plug-and-charge

On the roadmap

What it is, and how we use it

ISO 15118 allows a vehicle and a charger to authenticate each other using certificates, so a driver simply plugs in and the session is authorised and billed without a card, app or QR code.

The prerequisite on the platform side is OCPP 2.0.1, which carries the certificate-handling messages — that part is in place. The remaining work is contract certificate management and the hardware to support it in the field.

If plug-and-charge is on your roadmap, specify OCPP 2.0.1 and ISO 15118 capability on new hardware purchase orders now, even though neither is in use yet.

Bring your integration questions

If your evaluation includes a protocol conformance review, we would rather have that conversation early than late.
